The Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) has launched a campaign entitled "Media to Face the Corona Virus" that aims to enhance the media's contribution to spreading awareness to the public about the dangers of the Coronavirus.
CDFJ campaign, which started days ago, focuses on reminding journalists of the necessity of publishing the facts because it contributes to limiting the spread of the Corona virus, and avoids spreading false and misleading news, and rumors that cause fear among people.
The campaign seeks to urge journalists to adhere to codes of professional and ethical conduct during their coverage of the Corona pandemic, so they do not publish the names or pictures of the corona patients because they are inconsistent with the Access to information law and with international best practices that consider patients ’medical files a classified information and shall not be disclosed. The campaign also calls for non-marking groups or ethnicities as a source of infection and disease.
The "Media to Face Corona" campaign provides tips and advice to the media professionals on the importance of staying away from the affected areas, and the necessity of obtaining permits that enable them to move and work during the curfew.
CDFJ also emphasize on the importance of the journalists to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies during their work so that they are not exposed to any potential danger, and certainly that the scoop is not more important than their safety and health.
The campaign enjoys the interaction of journalists and the public, and its followers send their comments and suggestions to support the campaign with new content.
